This kitchen wand has been hand forged entirely from recycled high carbon steel on the wild and windy island of Ireland by me (Jenna-an artist/metalsmith who collaborates with fire to explore the alchemy of transformation through creative exploration).
One for the coffee lovers-This nimble knife possesses a charred handle crafted from salvaged timber and recycled copper to match the dark blade which gains its character from a forced coffee patina (the steel spent several days brewing in a strong cup of coffee to gain this protective patina). These incredibly durable materials have been transformed into an easy to use nimble kitchen knife that can be utilised to cut up many types of foods. It is not designed to cut through bone. It has a blade length of 127mm and a handle length of 120mm. It has a spine thickness of 2mm and an HRC of approximately 59-60.
1% of this sale goes directly to an environmental grassroots organisation.
This knife is made of high carbon steel, therefore it will naturally patina when exposed to moisture. To keep your knife in its best condition; hand wash your knife after use (do not put it in the dishwasher), dry your knife directly after washing, apply some food grade mineral oil to your knife after drying.
The timber handle has a coating of carnauba wax to aid in its durability, more wax or oil may need to be reapplied in the future once worn off.
Do not be alarmed when you see the patina forming, a patina will help create a barrier against the formation of rust.
*Please be advised that- unfortunately I cannot post to the USA and Canada at this time. If purchasing from outside of the United Kingdom (I am posting from Northern Ireland) -some countries may require you to pay an import tax at your local post office when you collect your knife.
